Importance of God's Word

God not only wants us to read our Bibles, but He wants us to study His word. Reading our Bibles shouldn’t be looked at as another thing to get done on your "to do" list. Daily reading and studying of your Bible will make your relationship with the Lord come to life. Listed below are 5 purposes the Bible has in our lives:
1. The Bible helps convict us of our sin and helps us to have an intimate relationship with God.
God uses scripture to speak to our hearts. God may use a particular verse in the Bible to open our eyes to sin we may have in our lives. God’s word is sharper than any double-edged sword and should show us areas in our life that needs improvement.
2. The Bible is our daily guide.
There isn’t a day that goes by that we don’t make important decisions and the Bible helps us to make the right ones. The Bible is our guide for daily living. You wouldn’t go on vacation without taking a map or you might find yourself heading in a completely different direction than you intended to go. It’s the same way with God’s word. God’s word gives us direction and leads us onto the path that we need to be on to get to our destination.
3. The Bible is our daily bread.
You wouldn’t just stop eating, yet sometimes we go weeks, months, or even years without reading our Bibles. When we stop reading our Bibles we stop growing in the Lord and we will find ourselves backsliding. So many of our spiritual lives are "starving" for God’s word.
4. The Bible offers encouragement and gives us confidence.
Everyone has self-esteem issues at times, but God’s word helps us to see who we are in Christ. It’s hard to have a negative self-esteem when we actually grasp that we are a child of Almighty God!
5. The Bible gives us hope for the future.
We are living in difficult times and it can be very discouraging. God’s word gives us hope for the future. God’s word shows us how He is still in control even when our lives may seem out of control. God’s word gives us hope by offering us eternal life to those who accept Him as Savior and obeys His commands. What could be better than spending eternity with our Lord and Savior! Now that’s hope for the future!
