Worldy Christians?

Worldy christians. Is there such a thing? Only God can judge man’s heart and motives to be able to tell who the true followers of Christ are. The truth is, we are all sinners in need of a Savior. True followers of Christ are known by the fruit they produce. We cannot profess to know Jesus as Lord and Savior and continue to live willfully in sin. Through Christ we can be overcomers and don’t have to live in bondage to sin each day! God’s Word says if we love Him we will obey His commands. God’s commands are not burdensome, but light. His commands are not there to keep us from enjoying life, but to protect us. God’s ways are perfect and always good. It saddens me to see so many professing christians living their life in sin and feeling no remorse. Sin grieves the Holy Spirit. Christians should pursue holiness not out of obligation, but out of a heart full of love and gratitude for the Lord who gave His life for us. A follower of Christ should look, act, dress, talk differently than the world. We are to be a light in a dark world, like a city on a hill that cannot be hidden. We are not to be conformed to the world, to blend in unnoticed. If our lives do not possess fruit of the Spirit we need to ask ourselves if we have really made Jesus LORD over our lives.
Is He Lord of over your mouth?
Cursing, taking the Lord’s name in vain shouldn’t easily come out of a heart that has been filled with the Holy Spirit. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
Is He Lord over your outward appearance?
We should dress in a way that is modest, that glorifies the Lord. God doesn’t look at the outside appearance, but at the heart. The way we dress on the outside is a strong indication of what’s going on in the inside. Are you dressing the way you do to get the world’s attention? Would the way you are dressing cause another man to stumble in his walk with God?
Is He Lord over your mind?
Are your thoughts preoccupied with yourself and acquiring more and more things? Do you hunger for the Lord or for the things of this world? Does the music and tv shows you watch glorify the Lord or promote sin?
Being a follower of Christ isn’t about a bunch of rules. I’ve been there and done that and it’s a miserable way to live. There is no joy or peace in following a long list of do’s and don’ts. You will live a life always feeling condemned and in bondage. On the other hand, we can easily become self-righteous when we see others living in sin and find ourselves having a critical spirit. I’ve also fit into that category and having a critical spirit also steals your joy and peace. We are to PRAY for the ungodly and live as Godly examples. A condemning and judgemental spirit is rooted in pride. We need to realize that if it wasn’t for the GRACE of God we would be in their same shoes. I’ve found that it’s impossible to pray for someone and criticize their lifestyle at the same time. Prayer is powerful and can change the hearts of sinners. When we sin against our Lord it should bring us to our knees in sorrow and repentance. If we don’t feel sorrow when we sin we need to ask ourselves if we are truly saved in the first place. If you are still breathing, it’s not to late to give your entire life to the Lord. Today, if you hear His voice do not harden your heart. Don’t just be a Sunday morning christian, but a christian who lives an abundant, Spirit-filled life that is an over comer through Christ Jesus!

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

1 John 5:18
18We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him.

Matthew 7:17-20

17Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

1 John 2:4
The man who says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
