Our First Advent

So tonight we began our very 1st Advent as a family. This is all very new to me, but I can tell it's going to become a family tradition for us each year before Christmas. It's so easy to get caught up in the gifts and not the Giver and the true Gift. I think I need the reminder even more than the kids. We turned off all the lights and read Gods Word and our devotional by candlelight while sipping hot cocoa. Sounds peaceful doesn't it? I left out the fact that my 21 month old had one of her tantrums because she couldnt have anymore marshmallows. It seems like it's always times our family comes together in prayer or to read God's Word that we have distractions, tantrums, fights, and interuptions. I know that our enemy Satan will think of every way he can to keep our family away from family worship and I refuse to let him succeed.
After our devotions were finished and our advent ornament was on the tree, we then held hands and thanked the Lord for the gift of Himself, for love, for hope, for grace.

Like the lyrics of a song- He had the birthday- we got the Gift.
So true.

HERE is a list of 45 gifts that we have in Christ Jesus written by Revive Our Hearts. We always have something to be thankful for!!

Randy Travis The Gift lyrics:
He was born in Bethlehem they say, there was a
star to light the path to where He lay. Rich or
poor they came from far and near, cause they'd
all heard the reason He was here.
CHORUS:
He was the Son God sent to one and all. Put on this earth
to hang there on that cross. Born to die so we
could live. He had the birthday, we got the gift.

They wrapped him up with gentle hands. God hoped
the world would understand. Eternal life we shall
receive. And all that He asks in return is that we
just believe.
CHORUS: He was the Son God sent to
one and all. Put on this earth to hang there on
that cross. Born to die so we could live. He had
the birthday, we got the gift.

There's no way in this world we could repay the
miracle He gave us on that day. CHORUS: He was the
Son God sent to one and all, put on this earth to
hang there on that cross, born to die so we could
live. He had the birthday, we got the gift.

On our Savior's birthday, we got the gift.
