Above All, Get Wisdom
I don’t know about you, but I am appalled at the foolishness shown in our society which has been displayed at the recent protests- too vulgar to even mention! It seems that everyone has an opinion and will go to great lengths to make their opinions known! We live in a world where moral absolutes and truth has appeared to have vanished.
Our society proclaims “do whatever you feel in your heart to be true, never judge other’s for their beliefs because whatever is true for me may not be true for you,
you deserve to have rights so it’s alright to trample on the rights of others to obtain those rights.” We live in an age where everyone exalts knowledge, but seldom talks about wisdom, but without wisdom there is confusion.
As I read and hear about the protests I think about this verse:
A FOOL has no delight in understanding,
But in expressing his own heart.
And while I am appalled at the behavior and language of others, I am convicted at how many times I MYSELF delight in expressing MY OWN HEART, which the Bible says is deceitfully wicked.
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Jeremiah 17:9
We all have views and opinions that we feel strongly about- family planning, no family planning, working mother, stay-at-home mother, public school, christian school, contemporary music, hymns, dating or courtship, and on and on it goes!
I have beliefs that I see in the Bible as being biblical, but oftentimes I can become so defensive of those beliefs that all I care about is expressing my own heart.
While we as Christians are called to speak TRUTH, we are called to do it in LOVE and concern for OTHERS. Often I believe we can be more concerned about expressing our own beliefs just for the sake of being “right”. But really we should be seeking only the glory and honor of Christ and the advancement of His Kingdom!
“But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.” James 3:17
“Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.“ Proverbs 3:7
“Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.“ Proverbs 9:9-10
Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
“The wise of heart will receive commandments, but a babbling fool will come to ruin.”
More than ever, this world needs Christians who are willing to stand up for TRUTH that’s found only in God’s Word! We (I) need to stop debating about the non-essentials and expressing our (my) own heart and loudly proclaim the absolutes that are found in God’s unchanging Word and by His grace live out His commands faithfully everyday. We need to all repent of trying to “express our own heart” and boldly proclaim the GOSPEL of Jesus Christ in hope that we can see fools begin to fear God and acquire true godly wisdom found through His eternal Word!
Sharing ideas and convictions will seldom get us anywhere and often cause division, but sharing God’s Word will bear much fruit! Everyone has convictions as led by the Lord, but it is the Lord that should be giving those convictions, not man.
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
God’s Word is faithful to show us how to experience perfect peace in the difficult days ahead-
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Isaiah 26:3
We are to keep our minds focused on the Lord and continue trusting that He is in control and Sovereign. He is coming soon to judge all the unfruitful works of darkness. God has been so longsuffering with us, not willing that any should perish. Today there is still time to get wisdom if you are convicted that you don’t possess it.
“Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.
She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.” Proverbs 4:5-9
“Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:
And He changeth the times and the seasons: He removeth kings, and setteth up kings: He giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding” Daniel 2:2-21
And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen, that we may give thanks to thy holy name, and glory in thy praise.
Blessed be the Lord God of Israel for ever and ever. And all the people said, Amen, and praised the Lord. 1 Chronicles 16:35-36
Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.
