Dedicating Your New Home

The Dedication of a New Home

I wrote this to read during the dedication of our new home and thought others might find it useful to dedicate their homes to the Lord as well. In past times the owner of every new house in Israel made a celebration and dedicated it to the Lord.
Here are a couple articles from Above Rubies that describe dedicating a home to the Lord.
HAVE YOU DEDICATED YOUR HOME TO THE LORD PART 1

HAVE YOU DEDICATED YOUR HOME TO THE LORD PART 2

Listed below are a few verses that apply to the home:

Then my people will live in a peaceful habitation, And in secure dwellings and in undisturbed resting places. Isaiah 32:18

The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tabernacles of the righteous: the right hand of the Lord doeth valiantly.
Psalm 118:15 Is there rejoicing in your home? One of the marks of a Christian home is rejoicing! Rejoice in the LORD always, and again I say rejoice! Ephesians 4:4

Then the officers shall speak to the people, saying, ‘Is there any man who has built a new house and has not dedicated it? Let him go back to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man dedicate it.
Deuteronomy 20:5

O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together. Psalm 34:3

Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table. Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord." Psalm 128

(For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.)
Hebrews 3:4

And you shall not bring an abominable thing into your house and become devoted to destruction like it. You shall utterly detest and abhor it, for it is devoted to destruction.
Deuteronomy 7:26

Now therefore may it please you to bless the house of your servant, so that it may continue forever before you. For you, O Lord God, have spoken, and with your blessing shall the house of your servant be blessed forever.”
2 Samuel 7:29
Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place— the Most High, who is my refuge— no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.
Psalm 91:9-11

By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
Proverbs 24:3-4

A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon. Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.
Psalm 127:1

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
James 1:17

Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat their produce.
Jeremiah 29:5

And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Joshua 24:15

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
Matthew 7:24-27

A Song of Ascents. Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways! You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the Lord. The Lord bless you from Zion! May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life! ...
Psalm 128:1-6
And you shall eat and be full, and you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. “Take care lest you forget the Lord your God by not keeping his commandments and his rules and his statutes, which I command you today, lest, when you have eaten and are full and have built good houses and live in them, and when your herds and flocks multiply and your silver and gold is multiplied and all that you have is multiplied, then your heart be lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery,
Deut. 8:10-14

Dedication:

We have gathered as a family of God to celebrate with thanksgiving the building
of this home and to dedicate it to the glory of God.

Prayer:

Father God, we come to You in the precious name of Jesus and ask that You would sanctify this house for Your glory and honor. We wish to dedicate this home to You as we remember that every good and perfect gift comes from above.
We ask that you would help our home be a temple of praise- filled with love, joy, peace and thanksgiving. Help all who enter through the doors of this home feel the presence of Your Holy Spirit as we share the blessing of food and fellowship. We ask that your hand of protection be upon our home and all who dwell within.
In the name of Jesus we dedicate and consecrate this house to the Lord.
Amen

Bless This House

Bless this house O Lord we pray; Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout, Keeping want and trouble out;
Bless the roof and chimneys tall, Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove ever open to joy and love.
Bless these windows shining bright, Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there, With smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within, Keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we May dwell O Lord with thee.

Prayer for the Home
Edgar Guest

Peace, unto this house, I pray,
Keep terror and despair away;
Shield it from evil and let sin
Never find lodging room within.
May never in these walls be heard
The hateful or accusing word.
Grant that its warm and mellow light
May be to all a beacon bright,
A flaming symbol that shall stir
The beating pulse of him or her
Who finds this door and seems to say,
"Here end the trials of the day."
Hold us together, gentle Lord,
Who sit about this humble board;
May we be spared the cruel fate
Of those whom hatreds separate;
Here let love bind us fast, that we
May know the joys of unity.
Lord, this humble house we'd keep
Sweet with play and calm with sleep.
Help us so that we may give
Beauty to the lives we live.
Let Thy love and let Thy grace
Shine upon our dwelling place.
