Purpose of the Holy Spirit

When we become christians and repent of our sins, each one of us receives the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit dwells inside of each believer and has many purposes:
1. Convicts us of our sin
When we do something wrong and we immediately sense that we are out of God’s will, that is the Holy Spirit convicting us of our wrongdoing. It’s important to listen to the spirit’s prompting. When we refuse to listen to the spirit’s prompting, the less sensitive we become and our hearts become hardened. It is important to repent from sin as soon as possible.
2. Helps us to live fruitful lives.
Without the Holy Spirit it is impossible for our lives to be fruitful. The fruit of the spirit produces love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentle-ness, and self-control. It takes time for a garden to grow just as it takes time for our lives to produce fruit.
3. Assures us that we belong to God.
The Holy Spirit is the guarantee of our inheritance and our seal that we belong to Christ. When the Holy Spirit lives inside of us we can be sure we are a true child of God.
4. Guides and teaches us.
The Holy Spirit helps us understand God’s word. Verses in the Bible that never made much sense to you in the past comes to life and has more meaning than once before.
5. Is the giver of all spiritual gifts.
At the time of salvation, the Holy Spirit equips each believer with spiritual gifts that we are to use to edify the church. It is important that we use these gifts to glorify God.
